Xodus adds name to OGCI ‘Aiming for Zero’ methane emissions reduction initiative

March 28, 2024

Xodus, the global energy consultancy, has pledged its support for the Oil and Gas Climate Initiative’s (OGCI) ‘Aiming for Zero Methane Emissions Initiative’, further cementing its commitment to accelerating the transition to net zero.

The organisation has built up a wealth of experience in developing emission reduction strategies, expertise it will use to assist operators globally in their journey to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) output across the asset lifecycle.

As the latest company to join the scheme, which now boasts around 100 signatories and supporters, Xodus has committed to do everything it can to help clients reduce methane emissions produced by oil and gas assets to near zero by 2030. It joins major oil and gas producers bp and Shell, alongside a number of service companies and leading global consultancies.

Rebecca Hewlett, Global Sustainability Director at Xodus, said:

“Xodus is a world leader in emissions management and joining the Aiming for Zero initiative is a natural extension of our work to reduce methane emissions in the oil and gas industry. As part of our efforts, we offer extensive methane management services including methane action plans, OGMP 2.0 compliance and detection technology reviews and partnerships, providing our clients with the necessary tools to meet their reduction ambitions.”

Julien Perez, Vice President of Strategy & Policy at the Oil and Gas Climate Initiative (OGCI), which launched Aiming for Zero in 2022 said:

“We’re delighted to welcome Xodus as a supporter of the Aiming for Zero Methane Emissions initiative. Xodus’s expertise in emissions management and setting out methane action plans will help operators to reduce methane emissions at their oil and gas operations.”

Background

The Aiming for Zero Methane Emissions Initiative establishes an all-in approach that treats methane emissions as seriously as the oil and gas industry already treats safety. Signatories and supporters of the initiative include major oil and gas producers, service companies and leading global consultancies.

The initiative’s signatories and supporters believe virtually all methane emissions from the industry can and should be avoided.

OGCI is a CEO-led organization bringing together 12 of the world’s largest energy companies to lead the oil and gas industry’s response to climate change. The group aims to accelerate collective action towards a net-zero emissions future in line with the Paris Agreement.

Aiming for Zero complements a number of other multi-stakeholder initiatives to reduce methane emissions, including the Methane Guiding Principles, the Oil & Gas Methane Partnership 2.0 and the Global Methane Alliance.
